The List To Promote Alternatives
Yes we can't do these today ... but maybe tomorrow. Today we need to let them be SAID!!
The classroom needs to be an adjunct to living.
Age segregation is wrong - serves the system.
Teaching is the name of the activity that commodifies part of our lives. We are all teachers and students all our lives.
We need to allow all people regardless of age physical or mental characteristics or any of the other separating features to participate productively in society. All people require that. People who know a particular activity or particular activities well would teach those with people who'd want to learn-study those.
The kind of work that we need to do is what is satisfying and of interest for us individuall and for our communities, our Earth. The anathema, work, gets eradicated.
If some farming has to be done, that's what it would come to be thought of. 'Work' would be our pleasure, our enjoyment.
School is the opposite of education.
Everybody hates it.
It cannot be reformed no matter what the definition of reform is.
It's an institution like marriage or army (armed invaders) that serve capitalism, our Owners.
[Ayerses just equated capitalism with democracy....21:35]
All those words and thoughts and syllogisms to try to justify there being teachers, ignoring people who are already teachers because they(we) know stuff. And like to do those with each other and others.
How terrible! the acceptance of the misery of school! That's why parents hate it; we/they know how terrible it make our children feel. It hurts so HARD to hurt children.
The need for remediation is in large part caused by school. In decent communities where people who care for children are able to be kind there becomes no need for remediation. Criminality comes from dysfunction in the home/community. No one is born criminal - well so few as to be unnecessary to factor in.
While school suppresses self as the source of study, school is not the place to raise those questions. Living together is.
School is isolating. It's elitist. It's the place where people can go until they fit into capitalist production.
People of all ages together as the ideas feelings needs desires - life - takes them, put people together - the opposite of the lonely existence capitalist destruction of our families and communities has caused. In these local travels - and I do mean 2 year olds - and yes, we'd need a safe layout of the area, and un-infuriated un-perverted people - which could only be obtained through building nice living - 2 year olds, 90 year olds, as well as people at the usual employable ages being productive members of society.
THE failing of school is that it disallows that. At best it tries to convince people that going to school is a necessary job. But they all know that's a lie.
Consider farming. Forget agri-farming. It's ruinous and not necessary. Think labor intensive farming - all of us able to put our hands around plants, in the dirt - for, maybe 6 hours a week - or whatever works for the individual and the individual situation. ...allowing only rare use of heavy machinery, if any. ...saving the organisms in the earth from deathly trampling.
Think anyone seeking out research laboratories because they'd been talking with someone about a question or idea that needed research that they'd create, or that were being done.
Think research not being done for profit.
Think health care - with the two year old around to do a thing at the examination with the primary care person...
Think any activity being done because it felt good to do, because it were relevant for people - or might become so.
Think everyone playing the piano and singing.
Think everyone building those Earth-conserving housing complexes - plenty of open space, gardening outside the door.
With enough shared dogs and shared children - reducing the desire to' have one of one's own'. Brothers and sisters would abound in this configuration.
Name work - see any of it being done by any-/everyone together...crowds in the kitchen washing dishes cooking cleaning the refrigerator - talking together. Humming-singing a song. Going to write a story or a letter. If a question needing study arises, resources in the community exist to fill that requirement.
Reading writing and arithmetic are integral to life - they don't need hours and hours to teach them. They get picked up in no time at all. Particularly requisite is the physical ability to do it - so the 2 month old can't hold a pencil in order to write - is the only kind of limitation.
All those books people write describing what the 7 year old can and can't do or learn - those books get those writers jobs at universities, social status as the go-to person about what 7year olds can/not do. But those evaluations are hooey, too.
We all can ... a bunch of things.
The 8 hour day is ridiculous!, brutal, as everyone knows. Paul and Percival Goodman wrote 65 years ago that if the available labor force were allowed to work (see above) a 4 hour work WEEK would overproduce what we need and like.
And all is to be done in gentle care of Earth. As well, all care for us all how ever needed we'd do.
and
Earth is not a resource.
Sustainability is not sustainable.

"a schoolmaster is a productive labourer when, in addition to belabouring the heads of his scholars, he works like a horse to enrich the school proprietor. That the latter has laid out his capital in a teaching factory, instead of in a sausage factory, does not alter the relation." Marx
"It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education." Einstein
"What does education[meaning school] often do? It makes a straight-cut ditch of a free, meandering brook. ~Henry David Thoreau
We are allowed through 'voting' to choose which of our Owners' representatives will continue oppression of us.
The system after all, is capitalism, immutable. The electeds have little to no choice in the matter, except to further it, or to resist it outright. If they resist it, and tell us truths, and tell us the system needs to be fought, that socialism needs to be fought for, they don't get elected, or they don't get elected again. (abstracted from a comment by Marx.)
"The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them." ~Karl Marx
"The ideal is nothing else than the material world reflected by the human mind, and translated into forms of thought." --Karl Marx, Kapital,Vol. 1.
